Love marriage Vs Arranged Marriage:-The Debate
Well, this is one debate that has acquired prominence over the past few years. This is also one debate where the opinion of youngsters and Older people are very far apart. This is understandable, considering the fact that they lived in a completely different era.
Let us see the opinion of the older generation first. They obviously feel that an arranged marriage is the best option. In such marriages, the elders take into account various factors, such as status, caste, money, character and of course horoscopes(in certain religions) before deciding on Marriage. They feel that if all these factors are satisfied then the couple will have a happy marriage. This has been a time tested method.
Now, coming to the opinion of the youth. They place more value on developing an understanding with their life partner, and hence feel that a Love marriage will be the best course of action to take.
Statistics show that a higher % of love marriages end in disaster when compared to the % in arranged marriages. The usual reason given for this is
“ People do not sort out their differences/understand each other properly before their marriage. People don’t really know what love is and get married hastily.”
However, is this the only reason?
Lemme, give you all a few more.
1) Most love marriages are rejected by both sets of parents. This causes undue pressure on the couple after marriage. Hence small differences might get blown up easily under such circumstances.
2) Sadly, the Indian society is yet to look at love-marriages in a positive manner, and still frowns upon those. This causes unnecessary hardship to the Couple(related to 1st point).
The people, who do go in for arranged marriages, do so resigned to their fate, in a way. These people are likely to have a stable marriage, because they know what they have committed themselves to(Note: This may not apply to all, am just speaking in general , keeping the current cum future generation’s mindset in mind being one of those myself!)
